After The Harvest Moon

The day comes,
When your heart doesn’t sink
Your lungs breathe, your feet move
Not like watching cars
Crossing over painted lines
Swerving, the hot ringing in your ears
Or flash of white.
You look upon the face,
Who took your slips of paper
And casually in conversation
Tore them to pieces without thinking.
Stammering and shuffling his feet,
You notice his bloodshot eyes
And crisp new shirt
He wears by itself because you finally
Convinced him to.
He talks to fill the space but
Doesn’t know there’s a river there.
Sweeping, it used to be a flood
But now it is wide and slow.
You speak quietly and clutch your glass,
A cheap prop worth every penny
And you’re surprised.
Where there was anger, doubt
Hot red has faded to a soft grey
You think,
Finally, after so long
I am ok.
